Wooden Crating for Cargo and Moves

Wooden crating for shipping when a carton is not rigid enough for the piece, the journey, or the way it will be lifted.

[ The service ]

A crate is for the piece a carton cannot protect

Wooden crating for shipping is rigid protection for a piece that cartons will not save. Wooden crates for shipping enclose the goods. Pallet crating gives a forklift something safe to lift. Export crating adds the question of how the timber itself is allowed to travel. A crate for machinery is built around weight and lifting points. A crate for glass is built around stillness inside the box.

Send the measurements before you ask for a date. Timber cut to the wrong size protects nothing. If the destination is abroad, say which country. Treatment rules are not the same everywhere, and the quote should not promise a mark until that requirement is confirmed.

What crating includes

Measurements before timber is cut

The crate is built from the piece, including any skid it already sits on. A guess wastes timber and, worse, does not fit.

A crate, a pallet, or both

Wooden crates for shipping enclose the piece. Pallet crating fixes it to a base when the sides are not the risk and a forklift must lift it.

Internal blocking

The piece should not slide inside the crate. Foam or timber blocks are part of the build, not an extra we hope to remember.

Marks for handling

This side up, the weight if we know it, and a sling point when the piece has one.

Export crating when the journey needs it

International wood packaging has treatment rules. We ask the destination before we promise a stamp we have not arranged.

A photo at handover

You see the closed crate. That is the condition we hand to the truck or the terminal.

Loading help

A crate is only useful if the vehicle can take its weight. We say if a forklift is required.

[ The job ]

How a crate is specified and built

Send the size, the weight, and a photo

Length, width, height, and what the piece is. A crate for machinery is a different build from a crate for glass.

Choose enclosed, palleted, or both

We recommend one. You approve it before timber is cut, because a rebuild is a delay.

Build and block

The crate is made to the approved size and the piece is fixed inside it.

Mark and weigh

Handling marks go on the outside. If the piece is weighed, that figure is the one the freight file should use.

Hand to the move

The crate is collected for the road, the port, or the airport named on the booking.

[ Choosing ]

Carton, pallet, or crate

Wooden crating for shipping is the wrong spend when a strong carton would do. It is the right spend when the piece can be crushed, punctured, or lifted badly.

PackUse it whenSkip it when
CartonThe goods are light, regular, and already happy in a box.Someone will stack heavy freight on them or lift them with a fork through the cardboard.
PalletA forklift must lift the goods and the goods can tolerate open sides. The piece needs protection from impact on the faces.
CrateThe piece is fragile, valuable, awkward, or going through several handlings. You only needed a box for books.
[ From you ]

What we need to build the crate

Export crating starts with the piece, not with a standard box from a list.

Dimensions in the travelling position

Include bolts that stick out and any part that cannot be removed.

Weight

A factory figure is better than a guess. The timber and the forklift both depend on it.

Finish and fragility

Polished faces, glass, and electronics need blocking that does not bruise them.

Destination

A domestic move and an export do not always use the same timber treatment. Tell us the country if it is leaving Pakistan.

[ The quote ]

What changes a crating quote

The price is the timber, the labour, and the handling. We do not quote a crate from a product name alone.

  • Size and weight. More timber, more time, and sometimes a heavier lifting method.
  • Enclosed or open. A full crate uses more material than a pallet with a collar.
  • Internal protection. Foam and custom blocks add time on delicate faces.
  • Treatment for export. If the destination requires treated wood, that step is on the quote once it is confirmed.
  • Where the crate is built. Building at your site and building at a workshop are different for the truck that follows.

Questions people ask first

Shippers ask these when a forwarder has told them to "just crate it".

No. Many commercial cartons travel well without one. Wooden crates for shipping are for pieces that will be crushed, lifted awkwardly, or damaged by ordinary handling.

The goods are fixed to a pallet so a forklift can lift them. Sides may be open or partly closed. It is not the same as a fully enclosed crate.

Tell us before we build. Liquids and batteries change both the pack and whether a carrier will accept it. We will not close a crate on a hazard you have not mentioned.

International wood packaging often needs a treatment mark. We confirm the requirement for the destination and put the treatment on the quote if it applies. We do not stamp a mark we have not earned.

Often yes, if the truck was booked with the build. A crate left with nowhere to go is just storage. Say if you need it held.
