How to Pack Fragile Items for a Move or Shipment
Wrapping, boxing, and crating so glass, art, and electronics survive a move or a shipment.
What to sort, what to tell the crew, and how to ready each room before a house move in Pakistan.

A house shifting checklist Pakistan families can actually use is a room-by-room list plus a note for the crew. It is not a mood board. The goal is a truck that leaves with the right goods, a building that allowed the truck to stop, and a new address that can receive them the same day or the next.
Use this for a move inside a city or between cities. An overseas move needs the extra documents in the household-goods guide. This page stays inside Pakistan.
Confirm the date, the origin address, and the destination address, including floor numbers. Ask both buildings about the lift, the loading bay, and any hour when trucks are refused. A society gate that closes at a fixed time will stop a move that was planned for the evening.
List the large pieces: beds, sofas, wardrobes, the fridge, and the washing machine. Say which of them the crew will dismantle. A wardrobe that was assumed to come apart, and does not, changes the truck and the staircase plan.
Book house shifting with those facts, not with “a 3-bedroom.” If the move is between cities, say so. Goods transportation for an intercity load is a different day from a shift across Lahore or Islamabad. Rawalpindi to Islamabad is shorter in kilometres and still needs the same building notes.
Go room by room and make three piles: moving, giving away, and rubbish. Packing what you no longer want is how a small flat fills a large truck. Papers you must keep, school records, and the current month of clothes stay out of the deep cartons.
Order or confirm packing materials if you are packing yourself. If the crew is packing, agree which rooms they will do. Professional packing is the right add-on for glass, art, and a kitchen you do not want to wrap yourself. The fragile-items guide covers the method either way.
Tell the utility providers and the building management the move date. Settle any gate pass or no-objection note the society asks for. These are boring tasks that block the truck if they are left until morning.
Number every carton. Write the room and a short contents line on two sides, not only on the top. A packing list for house shifting can be a simple sheet: carton number, room, and one line of contents. You do not need a commercial invoice for a domestic move. You do need a list if a carton goes missing between the old lift and the new one.
Keep a small “open first” carton for the new house: soap, a kettle, phone chargers, bedding for the first night, and basic tools. Mark it so it is loaded last and unloaded first.
Defrost and dry the fridge. Empty the washing machine. Disconnect appliances you are comfortable disconnecting, and leave the rest for the crew if that was agreed. Take TVs off wall brackets only if you have the tools and the bracket is part of the move. Photograph the back of any device with a confusing set of cables.
Collect school bags, office laptops, and the documents folder into luggage you will carry. What to do before movers arrive, in one line, is to remove every item you would be upset to find inside a carton.
Confirm the truck arrival time and the mobile number of the person on site. Share parking instructions. A crew that circles a society for an hour is a late move, even if they left their yard on time.
Walk the crew through the rooms and point out what is not moving. Fragile pieces and the open-first carton get a verbal mention as well as a label. Children and pets should be in a room that is already finished, or out of the house.
Before the truck leaves, walk the empty rooms, including cupboards and the roof or store if you have one. Check the carton count against your sheet. At the destination, tick the same sheet as cartons come off. A domestic claim is easier when the missing number is noticed while both sides are still there, not three days later.
An intercity move preparation adds only this: cartons must be closed and taped, furniture pads stay on for the highway, and the family should not expect to cook a full meal in the new house the same night if the drive itself takes the day.
Clear a path from the door to the rooms before the truck arrives, even if the new place is empty. Tell the crew which room gets which furniture so they are not guessing from a label they cannot read in a stairwell. The open-first carton comes off first and stays in the room where you will sleep.
Check utilities, the stove, and the water before you release the crew, if the building allows it. A missing key or a lock that does not match the one you were given is a building problem, and it is better found while you can still delay the unload. Then tick the carton sheet. A move that ends with a signed count is easier to live with than one that ends with everyone tired and nothing written down.
Start the rooms you use least at least several days ahead. Leave the kitchen and daily clothes until closer to pickup, or you will be unpacking just to live.
Carry passports, jewellery, cash, and essential medicines yourself. Do not leave them in a carton for the crew to discover.
The rooms are the same. The intercity job adds a longer time on the road, so cartons need to be closed properly and furniture needs more protection than a one-hour shift.
